What to watch: Jobs data starts arriving Thursday

Wall Street has been focusing on jobs, in large part because higher employment means more people will have more money to spend. That's a recipe for a robust economy.

Jobs data start arriving at 7:30 a.m. ET, with Challenger Gray's jobs-cut report — a monthly missive on mass layoffs. A surge in layoffs would naturally bode ill for the economy.
