Gold Royal Tudor Beasts Seymour Unicorn Coin - 1 oz

The British Gold Royal Tudor Beasts Seymour Unicorn 1 oz gold coin is produced by The Royal Mint in the United Kingdom. Each coin contains 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine gold and carries a legal tender face value of £100. Struck to The Royal Mint's bullion standard, the coin combines investment-grade gold with a design inspired by Britain's Tudor royal heritage.

The Royal Tudor Beasts Collection was introduced by The Royal Mint in collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces and is inspired by the ten heraldic beasts that line the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace. These stone guardians represent the royal ancestry and dynastic union of King Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour, and were originally intended as powerful symbols of Tudor lineage and legitimacy.

The 2024 Seymour Unicorn was the fourth release in The Royal Tudor Beasts bullion coin series. The unicorn was chosen as one of Jane Seymour's heraldic beasts and stands opposite the Lion of England at the entrance to the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace. Traditionally associated with purity and fertility, the Seymour Unicorn served as Jane Seymour's chief supporter and was a fitting symbol for Henry VIII's new queen and his desire for a male heir.

The reverse was designed by British artist David Lawrence and depicts the mythical Seymour Unicorn, inspired by the stone beast standing on the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace. The Seymour Unicorn is distinguished from the Unicorn of Scotland by a royal coronet on its head and a wreath of flowers around its neck. It bears a shield displaying the six-quartered Arms of Jane Seymour, incorporating heraldic elements representing her Seymour ancestry.

The Seymour Unicorn itself combines several characteristics traditionally associated with the mythical creature, including the body of a horse, the tail of a lion, the cloven hooves and beard of a goat and a spiralled horn. The Hampton Court beast is also depicted with a chain around its neck, reflecting the traditional heraldic representation of the unicorn as a powerful and wild creature that had been tamed.

The reverse also incorporates a chain mail surface animation background texture, providing the bullion coin with an additional visual security feature while complementing the medieval and heraldic character of the design. The Royal Mint specifically identifies this chain mail surface animation as an additional security feature incorporated into Royal Tudor Beasts bullion coins.

The obverse features Martin Jennings' official coinage portrait of King Charles III, together with the coin's £100 face value. The portrait was personally approved by the King and has appeared on British coinage following the accession of King Charles III.

Royal Tudor Beasts gold bullion coins have been issued in 1/4 oz and 1 oz sizes.
