The Credit Suisse 1 oz gold minted bar contains 1 oz (31.103 grams) of 999.9 fine gold and bears the official Credit Suisse logo and Valcambi Suisse refiner's mark, together with its weight, gold purity and a unique serial number. Produced by Valcambi Suisse, one of Switzerland's leading precious metals refiners, this cast bar offers investors an established form of physical investment-grade gold bullion.
Founded in Zurich in 1856 as Schweizerische Kreditanstalt (SKA), Credit Suisse grew into one of Switzerland's most prominent banking institutions. In 1978, the bank entered into a partnership with the American investment bank First Boston, eventually acquiring a controlling stake in 1990 and establishing Credit Suisse First Boston as a major international investment banking business. Credit Suisse also expanded into precious metals through its ownership of Valcambi, a Swiss refinery in which it first acquired a stake in 1967 before becoming its sole owner in 1980.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Credit Suisse gold bars gained widespread recognition among investors worldwide. Manufactured by Valcambi, an LBMA Good Delivery accredited refiner for gold and silver, these bars were produced in various minted and cast formats to meet the needs of retail and institutional investors. Their distinctive Credit Suisse branding and Valcambi assayer's mark became familiar features in the international bullion market. In 2003, Credit Suisse sold its ownership of Valcambi to European Gold Refineries (EGR), ending its direct involvement in the refinery.
Following financial difficulties, Credit Suisse was acquired by UBS Group in 2023, with Credit Suisse AG subsequently merging into UBS AG in May 2024. Although the bank ceased to exist as an independent institution, its gold bars continue to retain their intrinsic precious metal value, independent of the financial institution that originally issued them. This serves as a poignant reminder of the famous saying: "Gold is money. Everything else is credit."
Credit Suisse gold minted bars were produced in an extensive range of weights, including 1 gram, 2.5 grams, 5 grams, 10 grams, 20 grams, 1 oz, 50 grams, 100 grams, 250 grams, 10 oz and 500 grams. This selection provides retail investors in Singapore with flexible options for owning physical Investment Precious Metals (IPM), while the enduring appeal of gold ensures that the Credit Suisse bullion legacy lives on beyond the bank itself.
*Due to the long history of Credit Suisse gold bars circulating in the market and the variety of designs and packaging issued for different markets over the years, customers may receive Credit Suisse gold bars with different designs and packaging depending on available stock. Certain Credit Suisse gold bars were also originally distributed and sold without individual assay certificates, while others may have had their certificates lost or damaged over time. As such, not all Credit Suisse gold bars will be accompanied by an assay certificate.
