American Gold Eagle Coin - 1 oz

The 2001 American Gold Eagle 1 oz gold coin is produced by the United States Mint, with modern bullion issues primarily struck at the West Point Mint in New York. Each 1 oz American Gold Eagle contains 1 oz troy ounce of fine gold and is struck in 22-karat gold, with a composition of 91.67% gold. The coin has a gross weight of 33.93 grams, a diameter of 32.70 mm and a legal tender face value of US$50.

The American Gold Eagle is an official gold bullion coin of the United States, authorized under the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985 and first released in 1986. The weight, content and purity of American Gold Eagle bullion coins are guaranteed by the United States Government. By law, the gold used must come from sources in the United States and is alloyed with silver and copper to produce a harder and more wear-resistant bullion coin.

The obverse of the American Gold Eagle features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' full-length figure of Lady Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, with the U.S. Capitol visible in the background. The design is based on Saint-Gaudens' celebrated 1907 $20 Double Eagle gold coin, which resulted from President Theodore Roosevelt's efforts to redesign American coinage.

From 1986 to mid-2021, the reverse of the American Gold Eagle featured a design by sculptor Miley Busiek Frost depicting a male eagle carrying an olive branch while flying above a nest containing a female eagle and eaglets. The design was sculpted for the American Gold Eagle by United States Mint sculptor-engraver Sherl Joseph Winter and remained a defining feature of the coin for more than three decades.

In 2021, the United States Mint introduced a new reverse design for the American Gold Eagle featuring a close-up portrait of an eagle. The design was created by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program designer Jennie Norris and sculpted by United States Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon. Introduced as part of the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Coin Program, the redesign was accompanied by enhanced anti-counterfeiting features.

Over the years, American Gold Eagle bullion coins have been issued in a variety of weights and sizes, including 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz and 1 oz. With its range of weight options, consistent gold content and status as an official United States gold bullion coin, the American Gold Eagle offers investors and collectors in Singapore an option for owning physical gold bullion produced by the United States Mint.
